Skillful Rhinoplasty Can Effectively Address Both Cosmetic and Functional Concerns
Dr. Sahar Nadimi is highly trained with performing rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” can reshape various aspects of the nose, making it more proportionate and symmetrical. A rhinoplasty can also address certain respiratory problems that can inhibit a patient’s ability to breathe properly through the nose. Many patients experience a major improvement in their quality of life after having this procedure.
Reasons for Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty can address a patient’s cosmetic concerns, or it can address respiratory concerns and alleviate difficult breathing. Aesthetically, a rhinoplasty can change the size and shape of the nose. The procedure can do any of the following:
- Reduce or increase the width of the bridge
- Reduce or increase the size of the nostrils
- Realign a crooked nose
- Reshape the tip of the nose to reduce size or length
- Eliminate large bumps along the bridge of the nose
A rhinoplasty is also suitable to treat respiratory problems such as a deviated septum, which can inhibit the ability to breathe properly. Additionally, a rhinoplasty can correct other structural problems or damage suffered due to trauma.
Rhinoplasty is appropriate for both male and female patients who are unhappy with their appearance due to the size and shape of their noses.
Patients Who May Benefit from Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is appropriate for both male and female patients who are unhappy with their appearance due to the size and shape of their noses. Teens are often the most dissatisfied with the appearance of their noses; however, we do not recommend rhinoplasty until the nose has stopped growing. For girls, this is usually around age 15, but it can be as late as 17 or 18 for boys. Rhinoplasty can also be an appropriate treatment for a broken nose, deviated septum, or other condition that inhibits breathing.
Patients should be in good health overall and have realistic expectations for the potential outcome of their procedure. It is important to discuss any potential health concerns and your treatment expectations with Dr. Nadimi during your consultation. She can also address any concerns you have about the cost of the procedure.
What to Expect During and After Your Rhinoplasty
There are several different types of rhinoplasty and surgical techniques that Dr. Nadimi may use to achieve your desired results. Incisions may be closed or open. Closed incisions are placed inside the nose for inconspicuous scars. An open incision results in a small scar along the underside of the nose, known as the columella. All rhinoplasty procedures are performed under anesthesia.
After surgery, a nasal cast will be used to stabilize the nose. This is removed after seven days. Additionally, nasal splints may also be placed inside the nose and are removed after seven days.
After a rhinoplasty, your nose will appear more symmetrical and proportionate to the rest of your face. The overall shape of the nose is improved, with smooth lines free of bumps and other imperfections. Patients who suffered from respiratory problems corrected by the surgery will enjoy the ability to breathe with ease and comfort. Rhinoplasty can improve your self-confidence and bring more ease to your day-to-day life.
