Information for Out-of-Town and International Patients

Arrival at a Chicago Airport

Arrivals will exit at the ground floor and can find buses to be taken to a rental car company. There is also a taxi stand if planning on going to the hotel by taxi.
Driving directions can be provided by our office and printed out. Our directions are easy to follow and will insure not getting lost going to the hotel.

If the rental car is equipped with a navigation device, enter the city as Oakbrook Terrace, IL and the address as '17W445 Roosevelt' for Comfort Suites.

The Staybridge Suites Oakbrook Terrace

Many of our patients stay at Staybridge Suites as it a short walk to a Walgreens pharmacy, restaurants, a grocery store and the office. The telephone number is (630) 953-9393. The address is 200 Royce Boulevard, Oakbrook Terrace. We recommend requesting a room near an ice dispenser on the first floor if one is available. Each room comes equipped with a refrigerator, freezer and microwave at no additional charge. A local grocery store can be visited to stock up on food supplies.  Staybridge does provide a free breakfast buffet each morning.

Hilton Oak Brook Hills Resort

This is a very nice facility located 2.5 miles from our office at 3500 Midwest Road, Oak Brook, Illinois, 60523.  The Hilton provides Shuttle Service, Room Service, a 24 hour Pavilion Pantry Market, Concierge Desk, Business Center, ATM and a Snack Shop.  The Hilton offers our patients a corporate rate.  The telephone number is (630) 850-5555.  Our office is happy to e-mail a hotel information sheet which includes the corporate rate code upon request.

Pharmacy, Restaurants, Supermarket

Patients will find a 24 hour Walgreens pharmacy nearly across the street from Comfort Suites. Prescriptions will be called into that pharmacy and the medications can be picked up upon arrival. Other supplies can also be purchased at Walgreens.

Pete's Fresh Market is on the same side of the street as Comfort Suites and near the Walgreens pharmacy. One can select from a very large variety of fresh and prepared foods. There are also several restaurants within a short walk.

Care at the Office

Staying in town for 4 days or more allows for the most care by our staff and the most comfortable departure for our patients.

Departure and Airplane

If going by Taxi or rental car to the airport, we can provide driving directions for the best route.

A hat can be worn at nearly all times when traveling through the airport. One can generally leave his hat on while going through the metal detectors, but will be asked to briefly remove it upon passing through. The dim lights on the plane should disguise the grafts once airborne, so a hat can be removed.

Booking a seat toward the back of the airplane gives the benefit of having the most privacy and quick access to the restrooms for spraying or checking on the grafts. Be very careful with bumping the head on the luggage compartments and on the ceiling above the seat.

Ziploc bags can be used to hold ice. The flight attendant should be happy to provide ice. Icing during the flight can be helpful, especially if the surgery was within 72 hours of departure. Medications should be left in the original containers and kept in your possession. A spray bottle can also be carried.
