The facelift procedure is one of the best procedures to address age-related changes including sagging skin along the lower face and neck, deep lines and wrinkles, and to an undefined jawline. Dr. Sahar Nadimi can rejuvenate your face with a facelift at our Oakbrook Terrace, IL, practice. A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is one of the most effective surgical procedures available to combat signs of aging. Wrinkles, loose and sagging skin, deep creases, and volume loss can all contribute to an aged appearance. An expertly performed facelift by Dr. Nadimi removes excess skin and tightens the underlying structure to restore more youthful contours to the face and neck. For a more dramatic transformation, many patients choose to combine their facelift with additional cosmetic procedures such as a brow lift or eyelid surgery.
What a Facelift Can and Cannot Do
Genetics, gravity, stress, and environmental factors can all contribute to how we age and how quickly signs of aging appear. A facelift can address signs of aging in both the face and neck, including:
- Loss of firmness along the jaw line, resulting in jowls
- Excess fat and skin beneath the chin that results in the appearance of a "double chin"
- Sagging neck skin and unwanted muscle bands
- Deep nasolabial folds, or the creases that extend from the nose to the mouth
Although a facelift offers a longer lasting solution than injectable treatments, the results are not permanent. A facelift stalls the aging process to a degree, but it cannot prevent natural aging from occurring.

Refresh Your Facial Appearance
Dr. Sahar Nadimi explains how a facelift can address issues such as excess skin, accumulations of fat under the chin and neck, and creases and wrinkles. Her facelift techniques result in a natural and refreshed appearance that will be most apparent after about a week of recovery. The procedure, when performed by Dr. Nadimi, usually results in minimal to no scarring so patients can enjoy their rejuvenated appearance without anyone else knowing.
Candidacy for a Facelift
Most patients begin to seek out rejuvenation procedures such as a facelift between the ages of 40 and 60. This does not mean that patients younger or older do not qualify for a facelift. Your exposure to various environmental factors, stressors, and genetics will all play a part in your aging process. Ideally, patients seeking a facelift still have some elasticity in their skin. In general, facelift candidates should be in good overall health to prevent unnecessary complications. Patients should also have realistic expectations for the potential outcome of this procedure. For patients who are either not ready for a facelift or do not qualify for a facelift, Dr. Nadimi may recommend an injectable treatment such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, soft tissue fillers, or Kybella®.
During and After Your Facelift
A facelift can take anywhere from two to four hours, depending on the extent of work required, and is completed under anesthesia. The location of the incisions will vary based on the specific areas you want to address with your facelift. During the procedure, all incisions are created with the goal of being hidden and discreet, usually in your natural skin creases, behind your ear, and within the hair. Dr. Nadimi will then tighten the muscle layer underneath your skin that is contributing to the sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and jowls. Next, the excess skin is re-draped and trimmed to provide excellent natural appearing results. The incisions are closed with sutures.
After surgery, most patients will receive a bandage that is placed over the incisions to reduce swelling. You may require up to a week off from work and you will likely notice some bruising and swelling, which should subside within a week or so. Sutures are removed a week after surgery. As your swelling subsides and bruises fade, the results of your facelift will become apparent.
