What is Restylane®?
Restylane® products are composed of biocompatible hyaluronic acid and are free from animal products. When injected into target treatment areas, the molecules of hyaluronic acid attract water, which causes the area to swell. This action works to fill in lines and wrinkles, plump the skin, and give it a dewy appearance. Although Restylane® and Restylane® Silk are temporary treatments, they offer longer lasting results than many other dermal fillers and other injectable treatments.

Restylane® is primarily used to fill in lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, including nasolabial folds, smile lines, and marionette lines. Restylane® can also be used to add volume to the upper and/or lower lips. The results from Restylane® can last up to 18 months. Restylane® Silk is designed specifically to enhance the volume of the lips and smooth wrinkles around the mouth. Results from Restylane® Silk can last up to six months.
Do I Qualify for Restylane® or Restylane® Silk?
Because Restylane® and Restylane® Silk are not made with animal products, they are safe for most patients over the age of 21. These dermal fillers are an excellent option for patients who either do not yet require surgery or prefer to avoid surgery, as well as for those who do not qualify for surgery. These dermal fillers are not appropriate for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or for patients who have recently taken a medication that thins the blood or prevents clotting. It is common for patients to experience swelling and bruising around the injection site, which usually subsides in a few days or less.
What is the Restylane® Treatment Process Like?
As with all other injectable treatments, Restylane® and Restylane® Silk injections are performed in our office by Dr. Nadimi. She will use a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area, minimizing any potential discomfort. A small needle is used to inject the solution, which helps to further minimize discomfort and reduce post-treatment swelling. When the solution is injected, lines and wrinkles in the treatment area immediately begin to fill in, and volume is immediately noticeable in the lips. The injection site is massaged to ensure an even distribution of the solution.
You can return to your daily activities as soon as your treatment is complete. However, you should avoid direct sun exposure for two to three days after your treatment. As your results begin to wear off, you can return for retreatment to maintain your results.
