The Pros and Cons of Closed Rhinoplasty
The primary advantage of closed rhinoplasty is that there are no external incisions. That means no risk of visible scarring on the nose. This is important to consider for people who have a history of severe surgical scarring.
The primary drawback to a closed rhinoplasty is the limited amount of control over the structures of the nose. Since incisions are restricted to the nostrils, the amount of tissue adjustment is not going to be that drastic.

The primary benefit of the open rhinoplasty is that the plastic surgeon has a lot of control over the final results of surgery. The incision along the columella essentially allows the surgeon to make big and small adjustments to the cartilage and tissues of the nose and nostrils.
The main disadvantage of an open rhinoplasty is the risk of scarring. While the scar along the columella is typically heals well and is difficult to notice, it may be more of an issue for certain patients than others.
