How Much Time Should You Take Off Work after Undergoing FUE?
This may at first appear to be a straightforward question; however, in reality, it is not. The actual question at issue is how much time can you take off work after undergoing follicular unit extraction? If you can afford to take a couple of weeks to lounge around the house or even get away for a relaxing, non-strenuous vacation, then by all means do so. Is it necessary to take that amount of time away from work for medical reasons, however? No, it is not.
In general, hair transplant surgery is a relatively minor surgical procedure in terms of the effects it has on the body. This is particularly true of follicular unit extraction, which, unlike follicular unit transplantation (FUT), does not require the removal of a strip of tissue. The FUE method is minimally invasive, with little in the way of tissue trauma. While it is a good idea to take a day or two off after FUE, most people are able to return to work the day after surgery if they:
- Have a non-strenuous job that does not require much in the way of physical activity or the wearing of a hard hat
- Are careful to protect their heads from trauma of any sort
- Understand that, unless they wear a loose-fitting baseball cap to work, the fact that they have undergone hair transplant surgery will be quite apparent for about two weeks after the fact
For patients who can spare only a day or two away from work, it is a good idea to schedule the surgery toward the end of the week so that their days off are extended by the weekend.
